This past week was great! I was able to fly out to New York City and be interviewed for an internship. The internship was a three day process and a great was to meet the firm. The firm I met with is KPMG. They tried to make me feel their firm was the best firm to sign with.

In the accounting world there are four firms many students go work at right after college. You might have heard them as the Big Four. The four firms are KPMG, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Ernst and Young, and Deloitte.

Flying out to interview with KPMG I was pretty dead-set on going to KPMG after I graduate; However, after this trip, my goals have sort of changed.

I feel I need to do more research before I choose a firm to work for. I talked to my brother—he recently worked for PWC—and he said he agreed with me.

I will have a few more months before I decide who I should internship with, but I am sure through time I will be able to find the right firm for me.

A Day to Remember

Yesterday is a day in that I will remember the rest of my life. It is a day that made my career goals a reality. I was accepted in the Masters of Accountancy program at Brigham Young University. The stem that I was accepted into is the tax stem.

It started with me in the Tanner building studying for my mcom class. I heard my phone vibrate, but I was so focused that my phone was the last of my worries. My phone started to vibrate more, I decided to pause my studies to look at it. I looked at the first notification which was an email from Julie Averett. My heart started to pound in my chest and I immediately knew what is was for. As I opened the email it stated, “MAcc admission decisions have been made for Fall 2014.  To read your decision, go to . . . .” I clicked on the link. I didn't think three seconds of loading a page could take any longer. My pounding heart was instantly relieved as the first word I read was “Congratulations.” The first thing I did was fall to my knees to thank my God, the One who has truly helped me achieve this goal of mine.

I still have a lot of accomplishments I need to achieve in my life, but accomplishing this goal was the start. Having my Masters in Accounting will help me get the job I want; it will then depend how hard I work to accomplish my other goals.

I am excited about these next two years. I will be able to study a topic that I love—Tax. Yes you might wonder who would enjoy such a subject; however, being able to bring other people pleasure by saving taxes bring me joy.

Being a CEO in Your Future?

Apple, Wal-Mart, and Amazon. Why are these companies so successful? These companies are unique and continue to grow because of their dominant presence in online sales. In the Wall Street Journal there is an article that states how many companies are looking for a new CEO. Why? Because these companies realize to be dominant in the market they need to develop a strong presence of online sales. In this article titled, “Big Retailers Find It Hard Shopping for a CEO.” It states how Target has hired their CEO from within the company since 1910. However, the times are changing and Target is looking outside to hire their next CEO.

Amazon has had the most sales from online shoppers out of all other retail stores for the past 10 years. This past quarter however, Wal-Mart gave Amazon a run for its money. Many companies realize they do not focus on online sales; with this realization these companies are in need to hire a CEO who knows the market of online sales. Needless to say, If you are looking to one day make more than seven figures, you might want to understand the market of online sales.

Blogging

Blogging. What do I think about when I hear that word? Female mommy bloggers. Why is that? Especially when the blogging community is so huge? I simply cannot answer that question, but one question I can answer that you may have already asked yourself. This is not a mommy blogger talking about things to cook, or what to wear. This blog will be a blog about the life of a soon to be college graduate. A college graduate with goal and desires unlike many other college graduates.

I have recently finished my junior year at Brigham Young University, My major is accounting. Many of you have heard of the horror stories of the Junior Core for Accounting students at BYU. Those stories are true. I just finished this year and have seen myself grow in many ways.

What is so great about the accounting program at BYU is they do not just teach you accounting principles. They teach you how to be more spiritual, determined and gritty. Finishing the Junior Core at BYU has given me goals that I would never have imagined of achieving. I now have attainable goals that I only dreamed of as a child.

As you can see from my short bio accounting is my life, hence an accounting blog is what you will get.
